So what is Dutch in Dutch? 🤔Well this is what confuses most of the students. “Nederlands” is the Dutch word for Dutch and “Nederland” is the Dutch word for the country, i.e. The Netherlands. A small country, when measured in terms of kilometres, is barely 310 km from North to South and approximately 260 km from West to East. Here is a poem dating back to the time when I was studying Dutch and I had to highlight a few qualities about myself:
De bel in mijn hoofd gaat
Als ik in de lift las
Bij brand niet kussen
Maar de brand blussen
Nou ik kan er niks tegen
Want ik ben vol romance
Dus – romantisch en sensueel
Met een oog voor humor
En een klont suiker
Help ik mensen
Die stellen niet hun grenzen
Dus – behulpzaam en humoristisch
Zo trouw als een hond
En zo open als een wond
Ben ik geen duivel in de avond
Als ik heb gezopen
Dus – trouw maar verstandig en slim
Niet artificieel
Maar soms irrationeel
Ben ik erg spiritueel en gedreven
Om mijn doel te vervullen
Dus – gewetensvol en passievol
