Een typische verjaardag in India 🥴
Imagine being kicked🦶🏻on your birthday or getting a punch! 👊🏻 Ouch!
Nou, wat erg!
Birthday celebrations can be one of the most thrilling experiences 😿 in India unlike The Netherlands. Big fat parties, a huge crowd, lots and lots of food 🥘 🍰 🍱and a beautiful aura! Everyone is usually dolled up 🤩 to post new pics 🤳🏻on their Insta pages, but what about the birthday person? 👸🏻

Now, one might expect him or her to be “the” best-dressed and best-looking 🤵🏻which he or she undoubtedly would be. But that lasts only for some time, because the next minute he or she would only be spotted with some cake and cream all over the face.
A birthday is usually celebrated with friends, family and colleagues in India. This can be either at home, in a restaurant or in case of bigger celebrations, even a hall might be rented. 😵💫 The birthday cake 🎂 is generally brought by the family members or friends.
After the cake-cutting, people usually rub some cream or cake on the face of the birthday person followed by a good amount of selfies and clicks flooding the social media. Music, 🎼🎻 dance, 💃🏻 drinks 🍻 and games 🤼♀️🎯are a part and parcel of this celebration.
“Tambola” [a lottery-style board game] 🎟is one such game which is played the most in Indian parties. But the ‘deadliest’ 🥶 thing which makes the birthday person run away from his or her own party is the “birthday bumps”.
As a tradition, the birthday person is lifted, swayed up and then “bumped” on the floor by his friends and family members. The number of swings depends on the age. Hence, if someone has just turned 16, it would no longer be sweet 16. 🫣
In some traditions and countries, the birthday person is also punched, spanked or kicked. The number of kicks or punches again corresponds to the age. 🩰

En in Nederland? Hoe viert men een verjaardag in Nederland?
Als het over een verjaardag gaat, denken we meestal aan een taart, cadeautjes en misschien een kleine bijeenkomst thuis 🏡 met familie en vrienden. In Nederland 🇳🇱zorgt de jarige job 🧔🏻♂️of jet zelf voor de verjaardagstaart, terwijl in India de familieleden en vrienden voor de verjaardagstaart zorgen. Bij een viering thuis zit iedereen in een kring 🟣en iedereen zingt 🥳 mee:

Hieperderpiep, hoera!

En met elk “hoera” doet iedereen zijn handen omhoog. 🙌🏻 Daarna worden alle familieleden en vrienden gefeliciteerd, 🤝naast de jarige job of jet. Nou, wat raar! 😱Mensen smullen van een stukje taart en wat snacks of misschien alleen maar koffie en dan keren ze weer naar huis terug. 🏎 De Limburgse vlaai 🍰 wordt ook het meest gegeten tijdens een verjaardagsfeestje.

Maar hoe onthouden de Nederlanders iemands verjaardag? Is dit aan de slordige stoelgang 💩 te danken dat ze urenlang op de wc zitten! En wat doe je daar dan? Op het mobieltje scrollen? 📱Nou, een verjaardagskalender is vaak te zien in een Nederlands toilet. 🚽

Doordat ze zoveel tijd in het toilet doorbrengen, hebben ze gewoonlijk een kalender 🗓in de wc hangen, waarop de verjaardagen 🎈van de vrienden en familieleden te vinden zijn. 📅

Ten slotte hoef je niet te schrikken 😳als het verjaardagscadeau 🎁meteen voor jouw gezicht uitgepakt wordt en als naar het bonnetje gevraagd wordt. 😖 Nederlanders zijn eerlijke mensen en gaan gewoon een cadeau meteen uitpakken. Als ze het niet leuk vinden, schamen ze zich er niet voor om het cadeautje terug te geven of naar het bonnetje te vragen. 😈
